Classes,
which I have been running since 1994, take place on Thursday evenings
and Saturday mornings. You may start at any time, and you don't
have to enrol in advance or commit yourself to a high cost before
you begin. This is because there is a rolling programme of ten weekly
topics which may be joined at any point and which you can take at
your own pace. Some of the people who come are beginners, others
are experienced actors. In general there are parallel strands for
people who are seeking an introduction to acting, or a foundation
course, or continuation of their existing training and experience.
The Thursday class is more oriented towards less experienced pupils
but I am happy for people to cross over from one day to the other,
or attend both.
Topics covered include improvisation, voice exercises,
developing a character, sight reading, approaching the classics,
working on audition pieces, acting for the screen, auditioning successfully
and entering the business professionally.
People who have no aim of becoming professional actors but want
to develop their self confidence or express themselves in an enjoyable
way are also welcome. If you are new to acting and feel nervous
you will find that our members are friendly and that everything
you are given to do at first is simple.
Every session is different because there is new material every
time. I have long specialised in making acting accessible to all.
We usually have a drink together afterwards so it's very sociable
and a good way of meeting people and making contacts, and new projects
and productions frequently spin off from the group. A certificate
is available for all those who complete a ten week course.
